On Friday June 24, 2016, a group of Upward Bound juniors and seniors were given the opportunity to learn how to sail courtesy of an anonymous donor. Ken Warshaw and his staff at the MSU Sailing Center taught students the essential skills of how to sail and also what to do in the case of an emergency. After life jackets were secured, students were then able to sail together in groups around Lake Lansing. This experience taught students about the importance of communication and teamwork; without these essential components they would not be successful. Many participants expressed their gratitude not only for this unique opportunity but also being a part of Upward Bound.
“I am grateful for the opportunity because I know that everyone does not get into the program. It is really a great program to be in.”–Zariah H., Junior
