Academic Year Program: Upward Bound students return to campus weekly to participate in tutorial sessions, academic counseling, and enrichment activities. Tutoring and academic counseling is provided by the professional staff, MSU upperclassmen, and graduate students. Enrichment activities include speakers from traditional and non-traditional career areas, visits from college and university recruiters, group discussions, and field trips.
Summer Program: The five-week summer program is designed to give participants a college-like experience. Students take Composition & Literature, Math, and Laboratory Science. All instruction is individualized as much as possible in order to provide optimum assistance for student development. During the fourth week of instructions, select students have a campus experience living in an MSU Residence Hall. Field trips and other planned activities provide additional enrichment. The fifth week consists of a “learning as we travel” opportunity for students who qualify for the trip by meeting all annual Upward Bound requirements. Other students must complete required coursework at home.
