UB Parents are a very integral part of the program in terms of supporting, encouraging, and advancing their student.
What can parents do to assist their Upward Bound students?
Encourage your student to keep good attendance.
Send a note, call, or email us when an absence is necessary.
Make sure your student attends another tutorial when absent from UB.
Encourage your student to be appreciative and take full advantage of the opportunities the program provides.
Remind your student to let us know their whereabouts at all times.
Parents also have many opportunities to be involved (some activities are required):
Refer students during recruitment.
Conduct assessment of student needs.
Assist in student obtaining Community Service hours.
Speak on panels to orient new parents.
Chaperon field trips.
Attend the academic showcase.
Attend cultural enrichment activities.
Visit during the Summer Session.
Attend award nights.
Attend the annual financial aid workshop.
Attend the annual networking workshop to receive one-on-one assistance on the FAFSA.
Attend meetings and conferences.
Attend the annual “Parent Day.”
Additionally, parents are encouraged to serve on the Parent Advisory Council.
